The state governments of our country are doing all that they can to increase the literacy rate especially in the girls section. While there are a number of schemes under which the girls are beneficiaries one more such scheme which promotes education no matter what for girls is the Transport Voucher Scheme being run by the Government of Rajasthan. Under this scheme girl students from rural areas, whose schools are situated far away from their place of habitat are given transport allowance for school days. This is one of those schemes which encourages girl students to study no matter what.
What is this scheme
The Secondary Education department of Rajasthan Government provides monetary assistance to those girls who are studying in a school which is at the distance of minimum of 5 k.m. from their home. Under this scheme, the girl students who ply to and fro on a regular basis to a school which is 5 K.M.s away from their home are given a fixed amount per school day which is to be used for transportation. The government provides this monetary assistance to eligible students and those needing it. The transport allowance is only provided for those studying in Government schools.
For whom is the scheme
- Girl student who are enrolled in a regular government school
- Applicants should be a permanent resident of Rajasthan
- The student is eligible only if the distance from the student’s home to school is at least more than 5 K.M.s
- Also no buses should be operating on the route from school to home
- Applicable only to rural areas
- A minimum of 5 girls per school have to be selected each year for availing this scheme
- Student should have passed Class 8 examination and must be studying for higher classes
How much
Under this scheme the selected girls are to receive Rs. 5 per school day from the date of selection till the completion class 12 examination. The transport scheme is aimed at helping the girls get from home to school and back. The move is aimed only at rural areas and given to those whose distance of school from house is at least 5 K.M.s and no buses ply on the route from from home to school. The allowance is given for each school day and only eligible girls as identified by the gram panchayat are given.
How to apply
The students eligible and willing to avail this scheme need to make a requisition to their school principal. The principal of the school in turn has to request the District Education Officer for disbursal of the transport Voucher scheme. The students making a requisition need to submit essential documents such as those of the domicile certificate and a certificate from the gram panchayat mentioning the distance from home to school and certifying that there being no other secondary school nearer than that. The Secondary education department in turn after receiving all documents disburses the vouchers through the school.
